Michael Anthony Martinez

There is great jubilation in heaven as Michael Anthony "Micho" Martinez joined his father, Tony Martinez, on Saturday June 26, 2010. "Micho" passed away suddenly with his wife and mother at his side. He was born in Oxnard on May 28, 1960.

"Micho" was preceded in death by his father, Tony Sanchez Martinez, in 1988. He leaves behind his wife, Rosa Martinez; mother Gloria Martinez; brothers, Robert and Anthony Martinez; sister Laurie Orozco and their families. "Micho" attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and graduated with top honors. He graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1978, and lettered in both football and baseball. "Micho" earned a B.A. at UCSB in 1991. He taught at OLG from 1983 to 1987. He worked at Port Hueneme Naval Base as a supervisor for ten years and currently worked as a substitute teacher for the Oxnard School District.

"Micho" was an excellent athlete and an avid sports lover. Beginning at the age of eight "Micho" represented Port Hueneme as an All-Star in the big league series in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Followed by 1977 as a catcher in the Frontier League Baseball Champion Team and earned Santa Clara High School Booster Club Athlete of the year in 1978. "Micho" was proud to be the offensive/defensive coach under Coach John Mack of St. Bonaventure leading their team to win the CIF Div X Championship. He loved coaching, umpiring and refereeing. "Micho" was a #1 fan to all teams.

A music lover, he recently celebrated his 50th birthday with a party featuring a live band with many loving friends and family in attendance. He enjoyed dropping by his moms, often bringing friends along. Married in 2002, to the love of his life Rosa Solorio, he bragged about his wife's cooking to everyone. "Don't worry Micho, per your request we'll take care of your Rosita."

He will be greatly missed by his godchildren, nieces and nephews who he inspired with a "can do" attitude.
